Overnight Privacy Policy
Effective September 29, 2026
Overnight is a sleep app made by Yijing Shen ("we"). This policy explains what the app does with your information. The short version: almost everything stays on your phone and in your own iCloud account. We don't sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
What stays on your phone
During setup and while you use the app, you enter things like your age, sex, bedtime and wake time, sleep habits (screens, caffeine, alcohol, your room), what you'd like to improve about how you look and feel, supplements you take, your first name (optional), and your nightly check-ins. Overnight uses these to build and adjust your sleep plan. They are stored on your device and are not sent to us.
What goes to your iCloud
If you're signed in to iCloud, Overnight saves a copy of your plan and your nightly check-ins to your own private iCloud storage so they appear on your other devices and come back if you reinstall. This data sits in your Apple account under Apple's privacy terms. We can't see or access it.
What we share, and with whom
| Service | What it receives | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Superwall | Your first name (only if you gave one), tonight's bedtime, your screens-off time and your caffeine cutoff. Superwall also records an anonymous identifier, basic device and app details (such as device model, iOS version, language and app version), how you interact with the subscription screen, and your subscription status. | To show and personalise the subscription screen and to know whether you have an active subscription. Not linked to your identity and not used for advertising. Superwall's privacy policy. |
| PostHog | Anonymous usage events: which onboarding screens were viewed, and when the gift, subscription screen, purchase, tour and nightly check-ins happen. Each comes with a random install identifier and basic device and app details. Never your answers, sleep times, name or screen recordings. | To understand where people get stuck and improve the app. Not linked to your identity and not used for advertising or tracking. PostHog's privacy policy. |
| Apple | Your subscription purchase. | Apple handles all payments through the App Store. We never see your payment details. |
We don't share anything else, and we never sell personal information.
Notifications
Reminders (like screens off and the morning check-in) are scheduled on your phone. No notification content is sent to us. You can turn them off in the app's Settings or in iOS Settings.
Health information
Sleep times and habits are health-related information. Overnight doesn't read from or write to Apple Health. The only sleep-related details that leave your device (besides your own iCloud) are the three times listed in the Superwall row above. Overnight gives general wellness information, not medical advice.
Keeping and deleting your data
- Check-ins: delete them anytime in Settings → Delete sleep history.
- Everything on your phone: deleting the app removes it.
- Your iCloud copy: iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage (or Manage Account Storage) → Overnight.
- Data held by Superwall or PostHog: email us and we'll have it deleted.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or the CCPA in California), you may have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict how it's used. Email us to make a request. We'll answer within 30 days. We don't sell or "share" personal information for cross-context advertising, so there's nothing to opt out of.
Children
Overnight is for people aged 14 and over and isn't directed at children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's update notes.
